While many a sports bar in LA may bear the outward characteristics of a dive, few possess the true inner beauty and character found within Gabe’s, this week’s Wednesday retreat. Were we to visit during the fall, black and gold would adorn every patron and you’d swear you’d inducted into Steeler Nation. Alas, it’s baseball’s time to shine and that means it’s up to the Pirates to please (or more likely not) the local crowd.

Aside from the cheering (weeping) patrons on game days, you’ll find Gabe’s to be an affordable, serene neighborhood watering hole, adorned inside with sports paraphernalia, a few modest TVs, and the obligatory big screen in the corner. Two pool tables and dart boards are available for your entertainment as well as a jukebox full of respectable dive bar music. As one loving yelper noted, “This is a great undercover bar. Are you seeing someone whom your friends would give you crap about? … they would not likely look for you here…”

You’ll find plenty of parking in the back and don’t forget to take a walk around the corner to Hamburger Habit for pre- or post-dive eats.

As usual, the casual debauchery starts around 9PM and gets really interesting by 10:00. Come for one drink, or stay for one too many. Bring anyone and everyone, and join us for a great time in the middle of the week. If you arrive early or late, look for the people having a damn good time (it’ll be us), or start having a damn good time on your own (we’ll find you).

Carpe Drink’em,

Curtis, host

for the World Dive Bar Tour Executive Committee

“I knew we were in for a long season when we lined up for the national anthem on opening day and one of my players said ‘Every time I hear that song I have a bad game’”

-Jim Leyland

Manager - Pittsburgh Pirates ’86 – ‘96

The World Dive Bar Tour is your bi- weekly, Wednesday night stop for adventure, drinks, and professional networking in Los Angeles. 2012 will offer an eclectic lineup of seedy and swanky joints to soften your liver and relax your inhibitions, and an in-your-face assortment of auxiliary events, just in case 25 different bars in one year wasn't enough.
